From JuanM: 28mm Peasant's War & Rhodesian Bush War Guerillas (30 points)

Like Ross earlier today, Juan sends in an eclectic mix of figures spanning some 400 years, from the 16th century Peasant's Wars to the Rhodesian Bush War of the 1960s and '70s.

The Horroractor (like peasants don't have enough to keep them frightened) is from Pro Gloria Miniatures while the two pikemen are from the Perry's medieval range. 

Last but now least, Juan sends us three fighters from the Rhodesian Bush War. I suppose these could fit as either ZANLA or ZIPRA guerillas in that conflict. These 28mm castings are from Eureka Miniatures excellent modern range.

This fine collection will give Juan 30 points to add to his tally. Well done, Juan!

From JuanM: 28mm 16th Century Peasant, Warrior, French & Indian Wars Colonial Militia, 19th Century Mahdist Cavalry (45 points)

Juan sends us this wonderfully painted mix composed of a 16th century pikeman, a female shrew, a Roger's Ranger and a group of Mahdist tribal cavalry.

Here is the first half of the Cavalry complement for my Mahdist Rub. They are 28mm models from Perry Miniatures. I´m building a Rub for the "Black Powder" Rulebook with a Big size unit of Infantry (24 models), an Small size unit of Fusiliers (8 models) and an Small size unit of Cavalry (6 models).

Next one is a new Roger´s Ranger in 28mm from Galloping Major. I need to paint five more of them for my first game.

Finally, I send you a new model from Pro Gloria Miniatures, an ancient woman (yes, she is a woman) and a Scottish pikeman from Claymore Castings, a new company of 28mm models (sculpted by Paul Hicks). In www.claymorecastings.co.uk you can see them. I expect to use these figures with the same rulebook and terrain elements I am recollecting for the XVI Century game.

This eclectic group will give Juan 45 points. Very nice work, Juan! I'm particularly enjoying the 16th century stuff you're sending in as it's very characterful.

From JuanM: 28mm 16th Century Soldiers, Peasants and 19th Century British Nordenfelt Crew (45 points)

Juan sends some great shots of some new additions to his collection. First up is a 16th century group depicting three soldiers and a poor peasant (well, I guess peasants are poor by default...) 

The soldiers are plastic models from the Perry twins Mercenaries boxed set, while the peasant is from Pro Gloria. All are 28mm.

On Fran's recommendation, Juan is going to use 'The Lord of the Rings' rules for these which I think is a great idea as they are excellent for skirmish scenarios. I know the guys from The Fawcett Avenue Conscripts use them for several periods, even spaceship combat!

Next up is a British Royal Navy Nordenfelt machine gun and crew. These saw action during the wars in the Sudan. This is a 28mm Perry Miniatures set.

Juan's gaming group is currently playing a series of inter-linked games set in the Sudan using the 'Black Powder' rules. From my understanding, Juan is having a great time playing the Sudanese as they've had some early victories.

These two groups will give him 45 points. Very nice work, Juan, and good luck facing up to that Nordenfelt in your upcoming games (remember: duck and weave)!

Juan sends in several more medieval characters to add to his growing collection.

These 28mm castings are from are Pro Gloria Miniatures. I particularly enjoy the dog handler and the 'strumpet'.

Juan has found reference to a raid by Helvetic Confederation troops upon an Imperial Headquarters that he wants to form as a basis of a game - it sounds fantastic and I wish I could jet off to Spain to be a part of that game.


These four will give Juan 20 points to add his his total. Beautiful work, Juan.

From JuanM: Medieval Peasant (5 points)

Juan continues to impress with his single-figure submissions. This time we have a doughty peasant axeman heading off work in the forest or perhaps the local monthly bread riot. Actually, this range is meant for the Italian Wars or the Peasants' Wars of the mid 16th Century. Just look at the mournful face on this fellow, beautiful.

'I'm told there's a Big Bad Wolf in these here parts...'

This casting is from Pro Gloria Miniatures, sculpted by the very talented Paul Hicks. I have to thank Juan for this as I particularly enjoy finding these boutique ranges of figures. Very characterful and wonderfully niche - excellent stuff. 

This fellow will garner Juan another 5 points to his scorecard. He promises me that his next submission will be an entire unit.  I know he would like the points and to see a unit from him will be great, but I must admit that I enjoy many of these 'singles' as much as the larger entries.
