From KentG: 28mm English Civil War Pike and Shot

Kent sends in this fine regiment of ECW pike and shot depicting, coincidentally, the Kent Trained Band of Foote.

I'm not sure of the manufacturer of these figures. Kent, are they from Foundry or perhaps Renegade?

Kent did one test model before the Challenge, so we'll count 24 to give him a total of 120 points. Well done!

From SteveM: 15mm Afrika Korps Armour - 'Rommel's Rides' (36 points)

Steve sends in two command armoured vehicles for his Afrika Korps collection. 

First is an early Panzer 38t in dessert yellow. Rommel is perched high in the cupola taking in the sights of Tunisia. 'Hey, guys, its just like France except without the water, trees and a patisserie every 20 yards.'

Next up is Rommel next to his command halftrack 'Greif' accompanied by his trusty staff officers. There's a soldier in the halftrack that Steve says is near the MG34 to provide protection if need be. Actually, I think he's in there preparing a cappuccino for The Big Guy (double shot, half-calf on the de-caf and, oh, no-foam).

Both of these 15mm models are from Battlefront - Steve added brass rod for the antenna on each. 

I quite like the weathering Steve did on the armour, especially being able to see patches of panzer grey peeking through the yellow. Nice job.

These two vehicles alone give Steve a base of 16 points but I'm adding an extra 20 for the command figures, detailing and groundwork, so 36 total. Great work, Steve!

From MichaelF: 28mm Vikings

Michael is back from being on a trip for the past several weeks and sends in this beautiful group of Viking warriors.

All the figures, except the fellow holding up the axe (who is from Foundry), are from Artizan Designs. I really like the muted tones Michael achieved with the fabrics. The striped trews are particularly excellent.

Michael has based these for use with Gripping Beast/Studio Tomahawk's popular SAGA set of rules.

These boys will give Michael 25 points to add to his total.

From Curt: 28mm Napoleonic French Battalion, 2/67e Regiment de Ligne (20 points)

Work's a little crazy and with keeping on top of the blog I find it's been challenging to keep my own projects moving along.  Useless whinging aside, I have a few things coming to fruition and this group is the first out of the gate.

Though this looks like a large entry its actually pretty small. I bought the majority of the figures for this unit on Ebay over a year ago and they've been sitting on the 'to-do' part of my workbench ever since. I remember it being a cracking good deal, but once I received them I found that the painting was a little...meh. It was a bit of a slog reworking them, as I hate fixing other's people's stuff, but slowly I got through them all. 

The majority of these models are from Wargames Foundry.

The original figures were block-painted so I tweaked them with some highlights, cleaned up transitions, hit a few with washes and rebased the lot. I also added a few of my own figures to help the unit better blend-in with my other stuff. My 'new guys' are a mounted commander and two junior officers on foot. The battalion colour is from 'Flag Dude'.

Anyway, these fellows depict the 2nd Battalion of the 67e Regiment de Ligne. They had the unique distinction of serving as marines at the Battle of Trafalgar, many of which were aboard the L'Aigle (where ironically they lost their eagle, but saved their colours). 

Later, in 1809, they were part of Massena's IV Corps and were heavily committed to the hard fighting both at  Aspern-Essling and Wagram.

The mounted commanding officer and his junior below are both Perry models.

The other dismounted officer pointing forward is a Sash and Saber casting which I always seem to enjoy as I find them quite characterful.

These three will give me... 20 points(!). Yes, my head practically snaps back from the lunge ahead... God's Holy Trousers, I've got to get some other stuff done...


Next up: French Dragoons.

From ChrisP: 15mm WWII American Assault Company, US 1st Division - 'The Big Red One' (243 points)

Chris sends in this American force for use in 'Flames of War'.

It depicts one of the first assault companies, from the famous Big Red One, that waded ashore on Omaha. It is composed of a Company HQ, 2 Boat Platoons and an Ammunition and Pioneer Platoon.

These are 15mm Battlefront miniatures.

I quite like how Chris has incorporated varios beach obstacles into his bases. The simple beach groundwork is very effective as well.

This stand featuring a medic while other men storm the beach around him is very dynamic. 

This group of 81 will give Chris 243 points. Chris with this lot also bumps Ray out of third place. Well done! Back to you Ray...
