From MilesR: War of 1812 US Regular Infantry, Part II (90 points)

Here we have the second half of Miles' American battalion for his 1812 project, with 18 figures nicely topping it up to full strength.

That is a great 'man-sized' battalion! These are 28mm Knuckleduster figures. Hey, I just noticed, where is Old Glory? What flags are you going to use for these, Miles?

These 18 figures will give Miles another 90 points to add his tally. Well done - they look great!

Thank You to our Painting Challenge Sponsor - 'Architects of War'

Ernie and Barb Baker of 'Architects of War' have been kind and gracious enough to offer prize support for this year's Winter Painting Challenge. To the Bakers I say, 'Thanks so much!'

Those of you who may have visited Analogue Hobbies in the past will have seen several products from 'Architects of War' emerge from my hobby table. For those who may have missed them I invite you to have a look below (click the captions under the photos) and to visit their great website. Their products are of a very high-quality and I'm delighted that they've offered to support our little endevour, encouraging hobbyists to display their mad skills and get projects completed.

In a future post I'll describe in greater detail on how I'll be awarding prizes for the Challenge this year as I've decided to make a few fun additions from the previous Challenge.

From Curt: 28mm Norman Milites - The de Hauteville Brothers (70 points)

I've been busy with whip and chair keeping my visiting relatives at bay while I try to get some more Normans done (throwing them gifts, alcohol and turkey apparently works the charm). Here are seven mounted Milites ready to assist their warlord in the despoliation of foreign lands, the giving of silly names and the creation of that first vile accountant's spreadsheet: the Domesday Book.

Like the other Norman stuff I've recently done, these are 28mm Gripping Beast castings that are offered as a collection for their SAGA set of rules. They are very nice castings if a little rounded and soft in the detail. The LBMS shield transfers work a magic on these miniatures, giving a nice finishing touch to the process.

The last shot displays the Milites as the Brothers de Hauteville, charging with their father Tancred. If I were to do ALL the brothers there would need to get four more Milites (Tancred was a VERY busy man)!

BTW, if anyone has an extra one of these milites that you can spare to sell please drop me a note as I had to use an additional one for my command stand and so am a pip short to fill out a proper unit.

These seven will give me 70 points to add to my tally, which puts me at merely a glimmer in the leaders' rearview mirrors instead of nowhere in sight. Now back to some crossbowmen and French Dragoons.

From TimB: 28mm Great War German Casualties & 'Snori' the Viking Axe Caddy (25 points)

Tim decided to break the Christmas Truce and quickly sent in these models while I was gorging myself on turkey, perogies and cabbage rolls.  We see here two Great War German casualties.  We think these are 25mm Old Glory castings.

Next is Tim's brilliant Viking conversion that he made up for me which has its origins from an silly series of comments we exchanged a few days ago regarding Hrolf's scandalously pristine axe, the upshot of which was that any self-respecting Viking/Anglo-Dane should have a caddy with a golfbag full of various axes to meet any occasion.

Tim made the bag out of putty and festooned it with a variety of axes (courtesy of GW and Gripping Beast). Check out plaid pattern on the bag - very posh.

With the Scottish Saltire on his shield I'm guessing this Viking is from the Orkneys. So we'll call him 'Snori Haggis-McBaggis'. Tim left the basing fairly raw as I like to do the groundwork myself.

Thanks a bunch Tim! These three will net you 25 points (5 extra for the additional thought and effort put into 'Snori').

From IanW: 15mm Cretan Archers & Prodromoi Lancers (96 points)

Ian has been itching to get on the scoreboard for several days now and comes through with these lads from the wars of Philip II and Alexander. Well done!

These are 15mm Magister Militum castings that Ian adds to his Macedonian army which he's based for the 'Fields of Glory' rules.

Ian says the the 16 Cretan archers were fairly straightforward to get done but the 8 light cavalry were a bit more involved with shading the tunics and the leopard skin horse rugs.

This group will bring him 48 points each for the archers and the light cavalry: 96 points total!

Next up for Ian will be a big unit of 32 Companion pike.
