From AndrewS: 20mm Ancient Briton Warbands (300 points)

Not wishing to be eclipsed by Kent and Kev, Andrew unleashes these three units of Ancient Britons to vault him back into the lead.

From Andrew:
This is the last of the Ancient Britons for now – once again these are all 20mm newline metals, with a couple of Italeri too make up the numbers.
In total there are three lots of 24 figure warbands for a total of 72 figures.
I have spent a fair bit of time with these, and as well as the tartans and stripes, I have gone to town on both the colours and freehand work on the shields to make these a glorious thump of colour.

I am sure I have a few bolts loose up top myself, as I actually thought doing checked patterns on shields this size would be fun. I soon realized that it was damned hard work but carried on to make every shield unique.

These buggers will be ready to shed some big nose blood in my next encounter on the battlefield with Kev.

I dunno, I'm getting a nosebleed trying to comprehend all the work, skill and speed put into this force. Wow! Beautiful stuff Andrew. Again, as the other Britons you've submitted, these are wonderful. I love the vibrant colours and the attention spent to make them all unique and characterful. Bravo!

These three warbands of Britons will give Andrew 300 points which includes extra for the marvellous shields, plaids and tartan trews. Great job!

From AndrewS: 20mm Ancient Briton Cavalry (104 points)

Andrew switches from giant spiders back to ancient Britons with this fine entry.

From Andrew:
Another entry staying with the Ancient Britons once again. This time I present two units of Cavalry which concludes the painting of my first cavalry division for the Army.
Both units contain a mix of Newline 20mm figures and Hat 1/72nd figures. In total 12 cavalry
The first unit is the Medium cavalry, I tried to unify them with the shields to a degree, the hat horses are a bad fit for the riders so all have been drilled and pinned to take wear and tear, though they do come with some gruesome trophies of war attached to the harnesses which add a bit of flavour to them.

The second unit is the light cavalry element again a mix of figures from both ranges, plaid and free hand shield patterns to finish them off.

Lovely work Andrew. I like how relatively bright these are with the shields and plaids really being shown to their best advantage.

These two cavalry units will give Andrew 104 points which includes a few more for the time and effort for the shields and cloaks.

From AndrewS: 20mm Celtic Chariots (84 points)

 From Andrew:
Well I am back with a small entry, this time I have 3 Newline 20 mm Celtic chariots and 6 crew, that will form part of my cavalry division for Hail Caesar.

Plenty of checks and a splash of warpaint thrown in for good measure, and some free hand work on the shields.

Wonderful work Andrew. I really like the wicker panel siding on the chariots and the chequed trews on the drivers - very evocative.

These three chariots will give Andrew 84 points. Nice!

From BenG: 20mm Late Roman Command Stand (32 points)

From Ben:
Here's my Late Roman command stand for Comitatus rules, featuring an infantry commander, his bodyguard (or comitatus) and his signallers. They are metal 1/72nd Newline Designs figures which are beautifully sculpted and brilliant to paint. The only drawback is that there aren't too many poses to choose from in the range offered.

My Late Antiquity project has enough Romans for the moment, so I will start concentrating on the Gothic forces next.
My next entries will probably be more Napoleonics from the Borodino IV Corps; Italian Conscripts of the Guard, Italian artillery and the Joseph Napoleon Regt.

Great job Ben! Your shields look very nice and I really like the weathered, campaign look of the stand overall.

These seven Late Romans will give Ben base of 28 points with another 4 added for the shieldwork. Well done.

From PhilH: 28mm Pulp Adventurers (30 pooints)

From Phil:
Entry number three and more Pulp goodness. I am completely off the pace in the challenge and struggling to build up momentum in my hobby time - these should have been a quick two-night job but took over a week. First, a handful of Indian infantry. I attach a picture of what I was going for, no prize for naming the film!
They are Newline Designs sculpts, picked up in a recent sale. This was my first order from them and I was disappointed, more so because I ordered the wrong sculpts - Hindu infantry would have been better. The poses are a bit wooden, the details soft and the casting poor, with lots of filing and filling necessary to rectify some quite bad pitting. I won't deny that I am spoiled by usually buying excellent Perry and Artizan sculpts. Still, they were reasonably priced and will suffice to save our heroes from peril. I have no idea about the historical accuracy here, this is very much a film homage, what else is Pulp for?As with all of my entries, they haven't been varnished yet (I hate that job), so some bits may be a bit shiny.

Next up, another antagonist to spoil our heroes' plans in a future adventure. A Russian or Eastern European hard man for hire, a fabulously menacing sculpt, but perhaps not an original paint job!
Finally, what was going to be my first attempt at retaining the 'Sarah's Choice' award. Alas, you've tweaked the rules so this blonde warrior-woman won't qualify. She is an 'Hour of Glory' character and I have an alternate sculpt still to paint another day. I see her as an SOE agent, having been inspired by a small but moving memorial to them I accidentally found a while back in central London. Her uniform isn't ideal for behind enemy lines work, but it kept her colour-themed with my Commandos.
Next up? Greatcoated Germans. Time to re-watch some Band of Brothers for inspiration!

What great fun Phil! I know these took a bit of work but the final results are great.

To all, please keep a lookout for a missive from Mlle Sarah as I think she will be tweaking her requirements for the 'Sarah's Choice Award'. Stay tuned.

These Pulp adventurers will give Phil 30 points.
