Hounds of Love: Challenge Donations & New K-9 Additions to the Family

The lovely, lovely Kate.
For this year's Challenge I happily committed to donate $5 for each ronin submitted to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).  After a little thinking Sarah and I decided to donate half to the SPCA and the other half to a local 'no-kill' dog shelter as they are always chronically under-funded and in need of help.

Addendum: Last September we had to put down our beloved old hound 'Caleb' (hardest thing I've ever done, let me tell you) and we knew we would not get a new dog until we had time to properly mourn him. Well, with spring in the air and our hearts now in the right place we decided to expand our family once again and adopt not just one dog but two puppies from the local dog shelter. So I introduce to you Felix and Oscar (Be Warned: Cute Puppy Madness Ensues):

(Felix is the little guy with the patch over his eye while Oscar is the strapping brown-spotted lad.)

Don't let this calm scene fool you - these lads are hellions!
As you can see from the video they are pretty rambunctious and seem pleased as punch to have the run of Schloss Campbell-Hanks.

Let the indiscriminate peeing and pooping begin! Woo-Hoo!!

  1. So glad you have taken up a dog again, even happier he has a running mate, between them I am sure they can wreck just about anything they put their minds too. They look a fun loving couple

  4. Its a hard thing to do letting your faithfully hound go to the long sleep. I dread the day when our current Shepherd will follow on. The mourning of a pet is a very personal thing and your two new pups look like a huge amount of fun and work. Enjoy the next few months!

    Cheers,
    Ross

  10. Well done sir. A four legged friend is a blessing and you will be twice blessed. What lovely looking pups. Kudos for rescuing pooches as well, both of ours are rescues and it makes them just a little bit more special.

PS. You still neet to tell me where Schloss Campbell-Hanks is located so I can dispatch a certain dog-loving samurai. After all, he's worth $5 to said shelter!

    Cheers,
    Millsy

  11. They are just so adorable and they will have you wrapped around their paws in no time. Goon on for adopting from a shelter.

  14. A very nice action, Curt. But be carefull with those two "beasts"; they can left you without space and time...

  15. Thanks for the well-wishes everyone! It's so nice to have dogs in the house again as it seemed very empty over the winter.

    @Ray: They are a terrier/bulldog mix.

@Sylvain: They ARE an odd coouple but the names do seem to fit their personalities.

  16. You're right, there are few things worse than having to put down a pet of many years - I had to deal with two last year...

These look like two good, strapping lads though! And I'm sure they'll be around for a good long time! Congrats Curt & Sarah!

    1. Thanks Kevin! Yes, I don't want to go through that for a good long time. The good thing is we know that all dogs go to heaven. (People, not so much...)

  17. Awwwwww! Ickle-wickle puppies!

Yes, dog heaven has unlimited fire hydrants to pee on, postmen to chase, bones to chew or bury and it's always walkies/dinner/sleeptime. Your lamented Caleb will be looking down (in between doing the above) and saying to your pups "You've chosen a great pair of humans, young 'uns."

    1. My thoughts EXACTLY Rosbif. I have very little faith in heaven for myself, but would love to see all my hounds at my feet again - who knows, perhaps they would allow me to decamp in their heaven. I could happily spend eternity taking them for walks, picking-up after them and feeding them off the table.

  18. Oh, wonderful! 2 lovely and happy puppies and 2 happy dog onwers. Your post up is sending me off smiling.

Thanks for sharing and caring, and enjoy the madness & fun of puppies!

  20. I know what you mean Curt. WE had to put our dog down almost two years ago and I was the only one in the family who could find the strength to stay with him. So far we have not gotten ourselves a new one, partly due to the fact that our lives have been too hectic, but we will see to that next year at the latest.

These two are gorgeous and I hardly dare to sho them to my better half... I know doing that would speed up our timetable even more! ;-)

  22. Looking forward to meeting them this weekend. I shall bring some puppy treats as a bribe to get them to distract opponents during key moves at the gaming table.

  24. I just had to take my best buddy Panda Bear to the vet last week. If it wasn't for my kids and the overtime at work, I doubt I'd have gotten much done.
It's really hard now that my friend isn't greeting me at the door at shifts end, or laying at my feet at night.
Congrats on your new friends, I'll be a bit before I will go looking.

    1. I can completely sympathize - the winter here was very quiet and lonely without the hounds in the house (we had both a Dane and a Lab). Nonetheless, it does tell us how much they become a necessary part of our lives.

You'll mourn and get past this, and when the time is right you'll be happy for a new addition to your family.
